Glimmer Pond · 1.0
Help with your pond
Start from the menu bar and make the pond your own. Requires macOS 14 or later.
Where are the settings?
The pond appears beneath your desktop icons without a conventional main window. Click the fish icon in the menu bar and choose Settings. If windows cover the pond, choose Preview Pond; press Esc to end the preview.
How do I feed the fish?
Click an empty area of the desktop or choose Feed in the Pond from the fish menu. Without Accessibility access, desktop icon clicks may also feed the fish. Turn off Click Desktop to Feed in Settings to use menu feeding only.
How do I create a fish?
Choose Settings → Open Fish Workshop → Add Fish. Name and paint your fish, adjust its appearance, then choose Save & Release. Edits are kept as drafts; you can also discard them.
Is this live local weather?
No. Weather is an artistic scene generated on your Mac, without location access or a network connection. Choose a scene manually or use Natural Cycle. Automatic time of day follows your system clock.
How do I change the language?
The app follows the preferred language macOS supplies for it. Simplified Chinese uses Chinese; all other languages, including Traditional Chinese, use English. Quit and reopen the app after changing the system or per-app language. Your own fish names are not translated.
How can I adjust sound, motion, or energy use?
Ambient sound is off by default. Enable it and adjust its volume in Settings. Try Energy Saver, Quiet Preset, or Reduce Motion, and control insects, weather animation, and water effects separately. The pond can be enabled or disabled on each display.
How do I back up or remove my fish?
Export Fish Backup saves a JSON file; Restore Fish Backup imports one you choose. You can delete current fish in the workshop, but previous backups and recovery data may remain locally. Reset Environment preserves custom fish. Manage any exported files separately.
What should I try if something goes wrong?
Export a fish backup before quitting and reopening the app. Check that the display is enabled and swimming is not paused. Avoid deleting preferences or backups as a first troubleshooting step.
Version 1.1 preview
The following features are coming in version 1.1. The update is being prepared.
How do I save a pond?
Choose a landscape and adjust lighting, weather, fish and sound in Settings, then choose Save Current Pond. Apply a favorite in Settings or Saved Ponds in the fish menu. Switching favorites keeps your custom fish and workshop draft.
How do I share one fish?
Select a fish in the workshop and export its JSON file. Import shows a preview before adding the fish to your draft; choose Save & Release when ready. Full-library backups remain in Settings and use a separate file format.
What happens at the painting limit?
Each fish supports up to 160 strokes. New strokes stop at the limit, while the existing painting can still be saved and exported. Undo a stroke or clear the painting to continue.
